Time Management When Working From Home

Time management is important in all our work lives, but it is particularly so if you work from home. With the onslaught of companies that are now allowing their employees to work from home, not to mention those who have home based businesses, it is not surprising that some home workers get lost in their schedules and seem to accomplish little. Working from home has many benefits; particularly for mothers as you are able to be with your children and take care of the home as society deems is your responsibility. While many people feel stress related anxieties regarding their jobs, working from home actually adds more stress than a traditional job, simply because you feel that you must accomplish not only your work, but your home life schedule as well.

There are ways to manage your time when working from home, and be more caught up with your daily life. The main aspect in managing your time when working from home is to keep your work separate from your home life. This is especially difficult, since you are home for both work and family time, however, in separating the two, you have a much better chance of being productive while working, as well as being able to commit to quality time with your family.

Separating work from home is actually not as difficult as it sounds. You simply set a work schedule, and stick to it. Think about this: if you were working in an away from home job, once your work day was over you wouldn’t hang out at work for hours, or put off important tasks just to save them for later, right? The same work practices that you would have when working away from home should be used when working from home. Let’s say that you plan to finish work by 4pm. Once 4pm arrives, leave work. You would do it at a regular job. You would clock out, grab your coat and head home. So, if you work from home, set a work schedule, and stick to your schedule. You get much more accomplished if you schedule your work day.

Once your work day is over, it is time for family. That does not mean that you can spend an hour with the family and then head back to your home office for more work. You are finished working for the day, and it is family time only. Now, there may be occasions when you may need to work late, these are completely understandable. Just make sure that you are not constantly working when you should be spending time doing family things.

Managing your time when you work from home is as important as managing an out of home work schedule. By setting a schedule, and adhering to it, you will have much more time for the things that made you want to work from home to begin with.
