Time management for work and home
Time management has become one of the most popularly discussed aspects of daily life on talk shows, online forums, and even in the media. The simple truth about time management is this - we all want to learn how to effectively manage our time, and we all have it in us to do so. That being said, let’s look at a couple of ways to manage time, from work to home, that are easily implemented and can help you considerably when it comes to your daily life.
First, it has been said over and over, and people just are not getting it. You should stick to a schedule. Yes, even at home and particularly if you operate from a home office. Now, not everyone has a home office, so for those of you who do not, consider putting your home life on a schedule. For instance, schedule time at home each evening to help your children with their homework, time for bill paying, and especially time for yourself. It is possible to schedule some much needed “me” time. Let’s say that you do homework with the kids from 6 pm until 7 pm. Now, if their bedtime is at 8:30 pm, then you have an hour and a half to spend with them doing family bonding, watching television, playing games, or whatever you would like to do. Now, after 8:30, you have “your” time.
One thing that you should always keep in mind when deciding on your time schedule is that work is work and home is home. Simple enough, right? You would think so but it is amazing how many people are so caught up with work that they are constantly sidetracked. When you leave the office, leave work behind. You will get much more productive things done, and you will feel much better and have better quality time with your family if you learn that one simple rule.
Now, a few tips for getting things running more smoothly. First, if breakfast each morning is a rush, then consider planning for it the night before. Put cereal boxes out on the table, along with bowls and spoons, and have that five minutes to spare when you arise in the morning. You should also consider deciding what you will wear the night before, as well as what your children will wear. Lay out your clothing for the next day. This little trick alone could knock 10 minutes off your morning routine. The main thing to remember is that you need to adhere to a schedule. Once you have gone through your new routine a few times, it will be like second nature, and before you know it, you will be searching for ways to fill up all this newly found free time.
